First Competition for our Rowing Team!
BackOn Wednesday 24th January, The Macclesfield Academy Rowing team left School early morning to head to their first Rowing Championships in Warrington.
Our Year 8 Rowing Team had an early start to Wednesday as they left School at 8am and headed to Warrington to compete in the Warrington Youth Indoor Rowing Championships. On arrival the team had to register and receive details of their race numbers and times, each student competed in an individual 3 min race and then as a team in the mixed relay.
Before each race team members had to complete a bootcamp style warm up before heading to the pre race holding area where they were given a race card which showed them the number of the rower they would race on. They had to listen out for the announcements and watch for information on the large screen for they start call up.
Team members Cyrus S, Lindon H, Leon B, Lacey B, Reece Q and Ellie M all took their individual races in there stride being supported by each other and Gareth Pickering, their rowing coach from North Staffs Rowing Club.
The heat really turned up in the relay! The team had to negotiate quick change overs and work together to row as far as they could in 8 mins, changing rower every 1 min, the noise in the hall was full of cheering and the staff joined in the cheers of encouragement!
A Huge Well Done too all that took part, we look forward to the next competition.
