Design and Technology combines practical, technological and creative thinking to design and make products for human needs. Pupils analyse and evaluate existing products, use research techniques to design and make their own products that are aimed at a specific consumer group. Practical skills are a key element of D&T, as is the ability to use Computer-Aided Design and Manufacture (CAD/CAM) to enhance outcomes.
Key Stage 3
In KS3, students explore a series of Design and Technology disciplines – Textiles, Graphics, Electronics, Resistant Materials and Food Technology. Within each project phase the students are introduced to the iterative design process and the key stages required to aid design ideas and development
- Pupils can critically analyse and evaluate existing products
- Pupils use imagination and creativity to develop their own ideas both individually and as a team
- Use tools and equipment safely and correctly
- Pupils can use CAD/CAM effectively to improve product outcomes
- Apply knowledge and understanding of a range of materials and processes
- Generate, develop and model ideas using a range of techniques.
Key Stage 4
Pupils can choose GCSE Design &Technology (AQA) as part of the school’s pathways process. We choose to deliver GCSE Design & Technology (AQA) which provides students with essential problem-solving skills, creativity and technical knowledge that are valuable on further pathways in design courses and careers.
