A huge well done to all those who took part in our Macclesfield Academy v Sandbach Boys rugby match at Macclesfield Rugby Club on Wednesday night; It was an amazing experience for both teams and a memory that the students will hold on to forever. The students were an absolute credit to their schools, and the atmosphere that was created was amazing. It was a highly competitive match resulting in a well fought win for Sandbach.

Headteacher, Mr Galvin, who refereed the match said: "Rugby at TMA has come a long way in three years as our first rugby fixture at the Academy was on 3rd February 2022.  We are incredibly proud of our rugby team and the development of sport generally at the Academy"

The TMA PE co-curricular now involves approximately 40-42% of pupils in a wide range of sports and some of our achievements this academic year include

  • 60 Students across all years representing/training for the school at netball
  • 58 Students across all years representing/training for the school at rugby
  • A football team at every age group, with 50 – 60 students representing the school.
  • 51 students at training for volleyball
  • Recent introduction of UK Lacrosse
  • 3-6 fixtures per week of a range of sports
  • £15,000 worth of funding to bridge the gap in disengaged projects

In recognition of our commitment to sport, TMA now have 137 Students who wear sports ties to acknowledge their achievement in representing the school in Football, Rugby, or Netball.
